Happy 53rd Birthday Young Marines!
The Young Marines was founded in 1959, by the Brass City detachment of the Marine Corps League in Waterbury, CT. The Young Marines received its charter on October 17, 1965, and continued its affiliation with the MCL as well as becoming the US Marine Corps drug demand reduction program for youth in July 1993. Every year we celebrate the Young Marines Birthday on the date of it's charter, Oct. 17.
This year the Young Marines of Pensacola and Emerald Coast Young Marines joined together and had a great time at the Young Marines Birthday Ball. The .Ball was held on Oct. 13th at the American Legion post #240 in Pensacola. Our Guest of Honor was Chief Warrant Officer 5 Roberto Fernandez, USMC, Retired, Commandant of the Marine Corps League Detachment #066.
The Ball started with honoring our National Colors. Then a few words of encouragement to our Young Marines by our guest speaker, followed by a Cake Cutting Ceremony.
The first piece of cake goes to the Guest of Honor, the next piece goes to the oldest Young Marine present, YMLCpl Jacob Campos, and is then passed to the youngest Young Marine Present, which was YMPFC Evan Camden. This signifies the passing of experience and knowledge.
After the ceremony, we took the time to enjoy a good meal and great company.
Then it was time to graduate our recruits. They made it through boot camp. Going from a Recruit to a Private is a pretty big deal! Congratulations YMPvt Jake Weiser and YMPvt Leland Bolinger!
We also had a few awards and promotions.
PFC Isabel Zack received the Young Marine of the Year Award for Young Marines of Pensacola and Sgt Collin Czerny received Young Marine of the Year for Emerald Coast Young Marines. This year the Young Marines of Pensacola also had a Parent of the Year Award that went to Mrs. Holly Campos, which was well deserved. YMSgt Czerny was promoted to YMSSgt and YMPFC Zack was promoted to YMLCpl. Great job Young Marines!
After the awards and promotions, it was nothing but #FunTimes! We sang karaoke, we danced and we socialized. What a wonderful evening we had celebrating the traditions of the Young Marine Birthday!
